2003 February Pictures

February 01, 2003. On Saturday morning the Cub Scouts went for a hike along the old railroad grade that was used to move supplies to the Bolder Dam construction site between 1931 and 1936. In 1947 the dam was renamed Hoover Dam. The concrete-arch dam spans 1,244 feet across Black Canyon, is 660-feet thick at the bottom and 45-feet at the top. The dam height is 726 feet.

There are five tunnels along the trail. After 9/11, it was not possible to hike all of the way to the dam because the trail was closed at the end of the last tunnel. (See RonnieAdventure August 16, 2019, Blog #0373 for more information on the Railroad Tunnel Hike.)

February 14-16, 2003. We drove to the Bay Area for a few days so that we could attend April's wedding in Oakland. After the wedding we drove on to Sacramento to see Mike and Julie. Then, on Sunday Afternoon Ernsts had an open house so that we could see some of our old neighborhood friends.

February 26, 2003. Our annual Cub Scout Blue & Gold Banquet was well attended. We gave out awards and then our guest speaker Col Rodriguez, a retired WW II aviator, told stories about some of his WW II experiences.
